Setsubun Event Cleared!

The Setsubun Event is winding down. It’s definitely an interesting event for FGO veterans. Due to the lockout mechanics of this event, I had to dig through three to one star servants to clear this event in a manageable time frame. All the tower bosses have some weird mechanics that were manageable for the most part. I don’t have Waver/Merlin to run buster memes, but I do have the servants to run Arts/Quick teams. This event has made me appreciate the three star roster. Sure they’re not as fancy as their SR/SSR equivalent, but the majority of them have synergistic qualities that makes participating in this event easy. My favorite three star (and apparently the majority of FGO players) is Cu Cuchulain, the best three star lancer in this game because of his sheer ability to outlast your opponent. He along side a couple three stars made ascending this pagoda a breeze.

The last boss of the tower is Kintoki. It posed a bit of difficulty due to berserker advantage against all classes and I didn’t have Abigail or Hokusai in my arsenal. I had two setups I could field for this situation: art or quick. I decided to field a quick team composing of Osakabehime, Maid Alter, Okita, and Mashu. Unfortunately, Okita got smashed early on. I was counting on her to be the trump card of this setup, but poor planning on my part and some bad luck got her killed. At turn five, Kintoki decided to kill Osakabehime instead of Alter. Fortunately, I was able to deploy her NP, which gave Alter a huge boost in damage and survivability. On turn six, I used her NP and finished him off with critical hits on turn seven.

Setsubun Gamer is such an ass

Let’s get to challenge quest of this event. Setsubun Gamer aka Tomoe Gozen was a giant pain in the ass. She has three bars of HP with two minions she can summon. Her NP applies a powerful burn and a debuff that amplifies the former. What makes her even more annoying is the ability to put taunt on her minions. The solution to this problem is to utilize an AOE lancer to bypass the taunt restriction. Ereshkigal and Jeanne D’arc Lily come into mind. Once two bars are depleted, she will buff herself with a five hit evasion buff…five hits. You can brute force the buff away or utilize a servant with buff removal skills. In this case, I have Enkidu’s Presence Detection to remove evasion. A common servant for buff removal is Medea. With the event CE and Medea’s High-Speed Divine Words, she can use her NP in one turn which should put you in the clear. The servants I fielded for this event are Enkidu, Lancer Alter, Jeanne D’arc Lily, a support Tamamo Lancer, and Mashu.

Final Thoughts and other things

DelightWorks did inform the player base to level servants for this event. If you have a huge roster at your disposal, you can clear this event in a couple days or less. It took me most of the event’s duration. I didn’t want to rush it. I took a day or two to farm up experience cards for the servants I lacked to make this event easier. I thoroughly enjoyed this event because it forced me to utilized my entire roster of servants. I hope to see future events of this style in the future. On another note with all the QP given out, I was able to finally max out best kouhai.

I eagerly anticipate the next set of events and the eventual release of part two. It’s definitely a good year to be a FGO player.

Long Awaited Overwatch Competitive Results and FGO Setsubun Event!

So recently, I’ve gotten back into the groove of competitive play. I hit masters which was the target goal. Simple. However, I wanted to climb for Grandmasters. Two seasons ago, I came damn close to it. I was short about a 150 points. It dampened my spirits the following season which I quit in about a week. Today I started at 3491. I dropped out of masters because of some unpredictable variables: rage quits, D/C, lack of cohesion, etc.

Maybe today was going to be just an SR tug of war where I play a ton of games and end up with relatively the same SR… Nope. Not today. I ended up at 3217 today. I mainly play DPS roles with support/tank roles sprinkled in whenever our team’s roster was imbalanced. Some games I was mediocre. Other times I was on fire, but circumstances spelled my teams defeat. I’m not particularly angry at people. I am frustrated at my own performance and wished  I had done things differently which definitely would have affected the outcomes of a couple matches. Ah, the beauty of hindsight. It also helps I was somewhat sleep deprived for most of my matches, dulling the rage which I would have directed at my teammates if I was hyper caffeinated and on Adderall. But yelling at your teammates serves no purpose other than to tilt and cause people to rage quit on the spot. My thought process in matches goes like this: if there’s even the slightest chance of victory, I will play my ass off and try to attain victory. I don’t care if there’s six minutes on defense on Point B of Anubis. We play this shit to the end cause there’s always a chance of victory. That’s my little short for this weeks competitive ladder.

In about a day, FGO JP will be getting the Setsubun 2018 event. Thanks to aesma-daeva on the FGO reddit, the event is as followed:

First part:

Event duration: 2018/1/24 (Wed) Maintenance Ends – 1/31 (Wed) 12:59

Time-limited high difficulty event.

Complete the main quest and clear the hundred pagodas to receive clear rewards.

There is a Boss Servant per 10 floors of the tower. Defeat all Boss Servants and clear the event completely!

Requirements:

Clear the Final Singularity (Salomon).

There is NO need to clear Epic of Remnants to join this event.


Regarding the ‘Tired’ condition.

Servants who cleared a quest in this event will become ‘tired’ and is unable to sortie for a certain amount of time.

While you can wait until the tiredness disappear, you won’t be able to advance the event that way, let’s use Servants who are not tired and challenge the tower!

NOTE:

The Tired condition only applies if you win. Should you lose or retreat from the battle, they will NOT become Tired.

Servants with the same name as Tired Servants, will also become Tired AKA no using duplicates.

No item or Command Seal can be used to heal the Tired status.

You cannot use the Servants ONLY FOR THE EVENT QUEST. That means, you can use them for non-Tower event quests (Such as story, strengthening, or daily quests)


Regarding the Onsen (Hot Spring)

After you advanced the main quests and clear the quest ‘Secret Healing Onsen Found’ quest, the onsen will become available.

The onsen has a mysterious effect of healing the fatigue of your Servants, reducing the time needed to heal the ‘Tired’ state. You can put at maximum 5 Servants in the onsen.

Place your favorite Servants in the onsen to hasten their fatigue recovery so you can use them again!

NOTE:

You can switch the Servants in the onsen as you want, however Servants who left the onsen will not receive the ‘hastened fatigue recovery’ effect, please be careful.

Servants who are in the onsen cannot be moved to the 2nd Archive, please be careful.


A way to conquer the event

If you equip the Limited Craft Essence [Robe for the Oni] (or [Oni in Human Clothing] if you prefer) that you can get by clearing the quests in this event, the equipped Servant’s ATK will increase by 100%

Robe for the Oni/Oni in Human Clothing

ATK 500 (Max: 2000)

HP 0

Effect:

Increase own critical damage by 10%, star generation by 10%, and start the battle with 30% NP charge + During the Setsubun, increase own attack damage by 100%

If you limit break it, the attack bonus increases even further!

Additional note:

In the Setsubun event, there is no ‘Servant bonus’. Therefore, train many Servants and clear the hundred pagodas while switching your Servants around.

TL Note: The name of the CE can also mean ‘oni pretending to be a human’, like a wolf in sheep’s clothing. As u/Azraeleon said, if you localize it, it will become Oni in Human Clothing.


Regarding the Challenge Quest

Once you clear the hundred floors of the pagoda, a challenge quest will be unlocked.

You can replay the challenge quest as many times as you want.

During the Challenge Quest, you CAN use your friend’s Support Servant and ‘Tired’ Servant.

In addition, Servants used to clear the Challenge Quest will not be ‘Tired’.

Like usual, the exp, rewards, and drops, are one time only.

2018/1/22(Mon) 18:00 – 1/31(Wed) 12:59

All daily Exp and Mats quests are unlocked during the duration mentioned above.

In short, level as many servants as you can! I only have a total of thirty servants max ascended. I need to work on my remaining SRs and some three star servants and I should be good to go. I’m excited for a challenging event. Good luck to all masters out there. Let’s knock this Pagoda down!

New Year – What I’ve been up to

I realized about a week ago I haven’t done a blog post in a while. Things have mostly stayed the same. I’ll run down the last two months in quick fashion.

I played only a week and a half of season seven before deciding to quit. I quit because of two factors: I felt my progress stagnate and the toxic community can go to hell. So I hit masters and played eleven games after placement. Not too bad for a total of nine hours.

Maybe I’ll jump back to this season of competitive play. I need to deal with being on tilt better. The Overwatch League is amazing so far. That’s all I can say about it.

The mobile game from Delight Works. The ridiculously popular gacha game from Japan has been brought over to the states, but I’m not playing the NA version. I’m still on the Japanese version. I’ve spent too much time leveling my servants and grinding for material to just toss it away.

My goal this year is to skill up all these servants to 10/10/10. It’s going to take a long time at my casual pace, but I’ll get there eventually. I only have one servant at 10/10/10 and that’s Okita Souji.

The recent banner, Da Vinci and The Seven Counterfeit Heroic Spirits Rerun should help just a bit. The grind never ends in this game. The prologue for Chapter two was epic and crazy. I cannot wait for chapter two to be release sometime in the Spring. YOROKOBE!

I started to play this game again. Here’s my current progress:

I made great strides with all my gear. The dandelion hit Tet with a 69 failstack. I also grinded out an entire week to hit 61. My next goal is to get both the main and offhand to Tet. Right now, I’m AFK fishing at Tarif. I’m all grinded out and I need a break from it.

What to look forward to in the future

I’ll try to be more proactive this year in terms of writing. I’ll try to do one post every week or so and the content will vary greatly. Anyway, time to kick this new year into overdrive!

Mercy and D.Va changes

Oh boy a juicy update came in the form of a small rework to D.Va and Mercy’s kit.

D.Va

  • Micro Missiles (New Ability)
    • D.Va fires a barrage of small rockets that detonate on impact, dealing damage in a limited radius around each explosion. These can be fired while D.Va is using any other ability or firing her Fusion Cannons
  • Defense Matrix
    • Defense Matrix’s resource meter will now deplete twice as quickly
  • Boosters
    • Fusion Cannons can now be fired while flying

Developer CommentsD.Va’s Defense Matrix uptime has proven to be too strong, but simply reducing it without making other changes would make her too weak (and far less interesting to play). Instead, we’re adding a new ability, and giving her the ability to fire while flying. These changes give D.Va a lot of new options while maintaining Defense Matrix’s ability to shut down big enemy attacks.

Mercy

  • Resurrect (formerly Mercy’s Ultimate ability)
    • Ability now targets a single player, instead of every player within a radius
    • Radius reduced to 5 meters
    • Ability cooldown is 30 seconds
    • Mercy is no longer granted invulnerability while Resurrect is active
  • Valkyrie (New Ultimate Ability)
    • Valkyrie unleashes the full power of Mercy’s Valkyrie Suit, enhancing her weapons and abilities for 20 seconds:
      • Caduceus Staff: Mercy’s healing and damage boost beams now affect all allies near the targeted teammate, and the staff’s effective range has been extended
      • Caduceus Blaster: Granted infinite ammo, while simultaneously increasing damage and fire rate
      • Guardian Angel: Increased range and movement speed
      • Resurrect: Cooldown is instantly reset when Valkyrie is activated and reduced to 10s after the initial cast
      • Hover: Mercy gains the ability to fly freely, at increased movement speed
      • Regeneration (Passive): No longer interrupted when Mercy takes damage

Developer CommentsWhile resurrecting downed allies is a core part of Mercy’s gameplay, the way her Ultimate functioned was causing a number of problems. It was frustrating to play against, and it incentivized Mercy players to hide away from important battles, instead of taking part in them. This version turns Resurrect into a single target ability. It’s still an important part of Mercy’s kit, but plays much better for both Mercy players and her enemies. Valkyrie, her new Ultimate, gives her the opportunity to make big game-making plays and opens a number of new options for her.

D.Va has the potential to burst down 200 hp heroes at the cost of defense matrix. Her DM is no longer a crutch to use to completely negate enemy fire. She has to use it at the right time. She can fly and shoot, opening new avenues of attack and defense. She still has glaring weaknesses like her massive hitbox/crit hit box, but this change allows even more harassing power/kill potential.

Mercy’s change on the other hand is interesting. While this video is not an accurate representation of how she’s going to handle in competitive and in the pro scene, it’s still awesome.

Her new ult is Valkyrie. It enhances all her natural abilities, unlimited pistol charges, increase damage and projectile speed, resets cool down on resurrect, her regeneration is not interrupted by damage, heals/damage boost can chain off to other people and best of all she can fly. The player has full control of her movements. This ultimate gives her so many options. I can’t even begin to list. Of course, I’m not expecting people to nano boost Mercy and go all battle Mercy, but the option is there. Her resurrect ability is remapped to E. She can use it every 30 seconds, but you have to be close to the target and you are no longer invulnerable. She has more or less become an active combatant instead of playing hide and seek with the enemy. I feel this is the right step in making Mercy more viable in the pro scene and it will cause a massive decrease in rank for OT Mercy mains.

I hope  they make it onto the live scene soon. It’s an interesting time in Overwatch. I can feel the winds changing. A new meta might be coming. Who knows.

Season Five of Competitive Overwatch

With only two weeks till the season end, it has been a roller coaster ride for players looking to ascend the ladder. I started out this season at around 3300. My season high of season four was around 3400. Pretty close to masters. Only a week or two ago, I found myself at 3585. I didn’t put too much time into laddering. I did just enough to keep rank decay away and when I felt games were well, I kept going.

I clocked in around 23 hours with 103 games played. I won 57 games, loss 44, and tied two games. Not bad right? There’s no secret to climbing ladder. Just find your calling and push forth. I’m a flex player with a preference towards Genji, Soldier, D.Va, and Ana. I try to play around the team and just do my best. Win or loss, I became a better player by watching pros play. With that knowledge, the only way I could develop better game sense (ult management, positioning, knowing which enemy will have ults, etc) was by playing to the point I can instinctively react to enemies on the fly. By developing my game sense, it helped me with my average mechanical skills. I’m not the best at being pin point accurate with my shots, but I know where to position myself to maximize the hero I’m playing.

Now season 5 has been an uphill battle, particularly with the teams I get queue with. Sometimes you get the dream team. Everyone can fill in different roles. There isn’t an overlap in terms of hero pools. It’s great. Then you get teams with multiple one tricks of the same hero and things start to get shaky. It’s a heated topic on the forums and Reddit. People are tired of playing with teams full of one trick Mercys, Hanzos, Widows, etc. I usually try to play around those players and just be flexible. Always try to keep your cool. The last thing I want is me bitching about the team’s poor performance or being hero countered. I power through it and try my best to turn the situation around in favor for the team. If someone really wants to one trick Hanzo or Widow, I’m like

“Ok, you can play it, but if shit hits the fan and you’re not doing too hot, can you switch?”

Something along those along those lines. I’m playing to win and they probably as well. So I try to play flex to maximize the chances of my team winning. Sometimes games are totally unwinnable. I push it aside and move on to the next game. Leavers, trollers, and DCers happen. There’s nothing you can do but push forward.

Season five to most people is a shit show. I think players want to try something new for a change. Overwatch does get stale after a while and people want to try to branch out to different heroes for easy wins, the challenge, or for fun. If you want to climb the ladder, just keep grinding. If you’re on a losing streak, kick back and do something else. I wish all the players in Overwatch much success in their competitive games.

Diving back to Guild Wars 2 (Brief)

Guild War huh…didn’t think I would be playing it again when I have MMOs like Black Desert Online. I bought the game when it first came out and played up to level 36, which is to say not too far into the game. I grew bored with it quickly and had no friends to play with. A friend of mine decided to buy Guild Wars 2 recently. It made me curious to see whether or not the expansion was worth buying. I decided to play the vanilla game.

PVE

The things to do in-game blow BDO out of the water. BDO lacks any real PvE content outside of the grind and exploring. Exploring in BDO is there to fill in knowledge which gives you contribution, but it’s shallow in comparison to Guild Wars 2. Guild Wars 2 has PvE events happening all over ranging from escort quest to really annoying champion monsters. There’s also an incentive to explore the map. When you find all the nodes on a map, you get rewarded with treasure. I spent hours going through Divinity’s Reach and the starting zone finding the nodes.

Sense of Scale

It’s been a long time since I’ve been in awe of the size of a game world. Guild Wars 2 main city is massive. I feel insignificant. The sheer size of the buildings and walls makes Calpheon in Black Desert Online seem like an outpost in comparison. It might be a city wallowing in corruption, but it sure is pretty.

Closing

The game has revitalized the MMORPG genre for me. What I missed the most when playing BDO was the PvE content and the sense of adventure. Currently there are two sides to BDO: The life skillers and PvPers. I’m mainly do PvP content like node wars and the occasional outlaw killing spree, but the grind is absolutely horrid. Monster grinding for drops is absolutely abysmal and tedious. I’ve spent hours grinding pirates and all the money spots in BDO. It’s boring. It lacks a true dungeon that isn’t gated by gear and level (I’m looking at you Hystria). I’m not asking BDO to add instance content into the game. What I want is more dynamic PvE events in-game. The game feels stale doing the same grind over and over again. I’ll probably be bored with Guild Wars 2 eventually, but I’m having a blast right now.

I still play BDO, but more passively now. I’m still conceptualizing the Overwatch post. I’m not sure what to write.

Gacha Surprise

A day or two after the Grand Order post, a surprise gacha came out of nowhere.

I shouldn’t be surprised. Every gacha event in the game is a bait for another. Like Moriarty’s gacha and then the next day Proto Arthur shows up. Luckily, the three free tickets from the new missions netted me Kiara, everyone’s favorite ero-nun. All I’m missing is Meltlilith and Passionlips. I just need to believe in RNGesus and it should show…right?

On another note, I should have an Overwatch post coming soon. My last one was me begging to get invited and a year later since the game’s launch, I would like to articulate my feelings to you all my love and hatred for the game. Until then!
